Thommessen boosts dispute resolution practice with new partner

KRHB B2

Kristine Hyldmo Bjørnvik is appointed as new Thommessen partner, and will chair our new Dispute Resolution practice group.

Kristine is an experienced lawyer with extensive dispute resolution and contract law expertise. She has led a large number of cases before the court, as well as before national and international arbitral tribunals. Kristine also has in-depth understanding of the offshore and onshore construction industry after several years as in-house counsel.

Kristine is appointed partner of Thommessen effective 1 January 2020.

- We are absolutely delighted to appoint Kristine as a Thommessen partner. She has already established herself as a preferred litigator in large and complex cases. We are really excited about what the future holds in store for her and us, says the Managing Partner, Sverre Tyrhaug.

New Dispute Resolution practice group

Simultaneously with the appointment of Kristine as a new partner, Thommessen is creating a new Dispute Resolution practice group, and Kristine will chair this new practice group. Thommessen has very extensive experience in both judicial and extra-judicial dispute resolution, and consistently takes the top spot in terms of the number of cases argued before the main courts by the major commercial law firms in Norway. The firm has more than 30 lawyers working with dispute resolution on a regular basis.

- All our litigators have as of late been assigned to their respective areas of expertise and industry, but we see benefits in bringing some of this expertise together in a strong litigation team. The establishment of the new practice group will not change our approach, but enables us to further strengthen the professional foundations of our litigation practice. Our litigators joining the new practice group will retain a strong affiliation with their respective areas of expertise and industry, says Kristine.

The new practice group will, in addition to Kristine, comprise the experienced litigation partners Henning Harborg, Andreas Meidell, Stig Berge and Eirik W. Raanes, as well as several highly talented attorneys and associates.

Digital tools

Thommessen has already developed digital dispute resolution tools, which have been used in all major cases. These solutions are based on our extensive dispute resolution expertise, in combination with our project management experience. Kristine and the rest of the Thommessen litigators work closely with our Innovation & Development department, to further enhance the efficiency, effectiveness and quality of our work.

- Disputes tend to tie down the client’s own time and resources in what is already a hectic existence. It is therefore of decisive importance to be able to predict and plan when such efforts are required. We use digital project management and document processing tools to improve workflow efficiency and ensure involvement, transparency and predictability for clients. We thereby ensure that the client does at all times have an overview of the case and its documents, understands the timeline of the case, and knows what needs to be done when, says Kristine.
