We are proud to announce the appointment of Svein Terje Tveit as a new Partner at our Oslo office.
Svein Terje has extensive experience in competition law, state aid, public procurement and EU/EEA law, and is ranked among Norway's leading lawyers in these fields. He has particular industry experience from the trade and distribution, energy and transport sectors.
Back at Thommessen
After seven years at Arntzen Grette, most recently as Head of Trade (competition, state aid and public procurement), Svein Terje now returns to Thommessen. From 2007 to 2018, he held positions as Associate, Senior Associate and later Managing Associate with the firm.
– I am very much looking forward to returning and becoming part of Norway's leading competition law practice, as well as an exceptionally skilled partnership. I started my career here and know what the firm stands for. I am keen to contribute within EU and competition law in important matters, and when the opportunity to join the partnership arose, the decision was an easy one, says Svein Terje.
Managing Partner Sverre Tyrhaug also welcomes the appointment.
– He brings outstanding expertise in competition law, public procurement and state aid - and we know that he is highly regarded by both clients and colleagues, he says.
Partner Eivind Vesterkjær, who heads the firm's EU/EEA and Competition practice, adds:
– We are very pleased to strengthen the team with his expertise.
Developments within the practice areas
Svein Terje highlights several legal developments he looks forward to working with in the years ahead.
– Within competition law, we are seeing increasingly active competition authorities, with greater focus on merger control, investigations, and likely also market investigations. It will be exciting to follow this development, and Thommessen will be an important contributor in these matters.
He continues:
– In the area of state aid, there is pressure on public funds at the same time as the need for restructuring is significant. Substantial state aid will be used going forward, and we are also seeing an increase in private enforcement.
The public procurement landscape will also be shaped by change:
– Norway spends significantly more on public procurement than our Nordic neighbours, making regulatory compliance particularly important. I look forward to assisting both contracting authorities and suppliers in ensuring efficient procurement processes, together with Wenche Sædal and the strong public procurement team, Svein Terje concludes.
We look forward to benefitting from his expertise and commitment. Welcome to Thommessen!
