Corporate Forum on Sustainable Finance

Investment and Finance

The Corporate Forum on Sustainable Finance is a forum of 25 large European companies (including major issuers of green bonds) committed to sustainability and sustainable finance. Its main objectives are to promote the use of GSSS (Green, Social, Sustainability and Sustainability-linked) financial instruments, share best practices in ESG, and contribute collectively to regulatory developments on behalf of Forum members.

Thommessen's comments

In Thommessen's view, the Corporate Forum on Sustainable Finance reflects that sustainable finance is becoming an increasingly prominent issue and that investors are adapting to new trends, particularly in allocating capital to low-carbon and sustainable investments.

The Forum, consisting of major and influential market participants, may facilitate for practical and market-oriented, effective and targeted solutions related to the sustainable development of the finance markets and finance instruments.

About

The Corporate Forum for Sustainable Finance is designed as a permanent network where private companies can exchange views and ideas in order to uphold and develop sustainable finance as a critical tool to combat climate change, and to foster a more sustainable and responsible society.

The member companies are active in a variety of sectors, such as supply of e.g. electricity, infrastructure, and real estate. The aspiration of the member companies is, in short, to contribute towards and facilitate for sustainable finance, through the use of a broad set of GSSS financial instruments, including, bonds, loans, credit facilities and other current of future sustainable financing tools recognising the sustainability of their issuers' business model.

The Forum's work is organised into four working groups covering:

  • taxonomy and regulation
  • markets and frameworks
  • communication and advocacy
  • ESG rating agency engagement

Launched on 15 January 2019 by 16 European companies.

Relation to other initiatives and regulations

The Forum was launched one year after the Paris Green Bond Pledge, by 16 European companies.

The member companies have agreed to commitments that go beyond the Paris Green Bond Pledge, including promoting innovation in sustainable finance, integrating sustainability more deeply into corporate financial strategies, actively participating in the development of standards and regulatory frameworks, leveraging mutual expertise and promoting best practices in impact reporting, and engaging with rating agencies on the integration of sustainability criteria.

As of May 2025, 25 European companies are participating in the Corporate Forum on Sustainable Finance.
