In 2019, Thommessen became part of the UN Global Compact - a global network for businesses committed to social responsibility and promoting responsible and sustainable business practices. As part of this collaboration, we report annually on our sustainability work and our goals. Here we share this year's report.
At Thommessen, we are committed to being a "real team in everything we do". This is why sustainable development goal number 17 – partnerships for the goals – is crucial for us. We need interdisciplinary collaboration to meet the sustainable development goals. We have therefore joined networks such as the UN Global Compact, Katapult Ocean and Klimapartnere Rogaland. However, our most important contribution is probably the one we make when advising our clients. We believe that we can help create long-term value for our clients by integrating sustainability into our legal advice across all industries and disciplines, while at the same time contributing to sustainable development.
One of our major projects across Thommessen over the last year has been the development of the Thommessen Sustainability Database. The increased focus on sustainable development is accompanied by accelerating sustainability regulation. This includes both new statutory instruments and specific requirements launched by various industries, financial institutions and investors. Our database provides you with an updated overview of sustainability regulations and requirements of relevance to your sector, and we explain how this may affect your business. As commercial lawyers, knowledge is our most important resource. We have therefore made this service available to clients, potential clients and other collaboration partners. More than 300 businesses have registered with the database, and we hope this can contribute to making business more sustainable.
We have three values which are important to us, and which guide our culture and how we run the firm. The first value is reliable, which is about the kind of people we are. The second value is dedicated, which is about how we interact with other people. Last, but not least, is curious, which is about how we respond to change. Our sustainability report provides you with an overview of how we pursue sustainability, structured under these values. We share our achievements over the last year, as well as the goals that shall help us achieve even more. Our focus is on the UN Global Compact’s ten principles in the areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption.
